2016 Game-Changers

As I sat down to review my 2016 goals, I also reflected upon the year as a whole. There was more to it than just my goals. A few things really stood out as game-changers, so I wanted to share them with you. These are all things I wasn’t necessarily expecting, but they had a huge (and positive) impact on my year and reaching my goals.

These three game-changers had a huge & positive impact! I felt better, had a productivity boost, & I reached my goals! PLUS my best advice for the new year!

#1 – Planning!

It might sound silly to call this a hobby, but getting organized and using a planner totally changed everything! No more scattered to-do lists; bills and appointments are all in one place. Plus, it turned into a creative outlet and led me to bullet journaling. It has also inspired me to learn hand lettering, calligraphy, and watercolor painting.

#2- Taking charge of my health.

Okay, this is semi-related to my goals for the year, but it’s still worth mentioning. Nothing made me feel better this year than when I took charge and started tackling my weight loss goals. Dieting, exercise, drinking water – it all made me feel amazing inside and out. Some of those health gurus might be on to something here!

I’ve mentioned before that dieting has always been a rollercoaster for me. Sometimes I’m all about it, other times I just fall off the wagon. When I am actively in charge of my health and taking care of myself, I feel like I’m on top of the world. My moods are better, I have more energy, and I know there’s nothing that I can’t do. That’s definitely something to remind myself about when I feel like quitting again!

#3- Leggings.

For real! Yes, they totally count as pants (as long as they’re not see-through). I know I’m late to the game on this one, but fashion has never really been my thing. My sister-in-law gifted me with a couple pairs of LuLaRoe leggings, and I’m in love.

As a SAHM, I do a lot of staying home. A LOT. So most days it doesn’t really feel worth it to put forth a ton of effort into my appearance (especially the clothes) when I know in a matter of minutes I’ll be wrestled to the ground by sticky fingers. Enter leggings. Wow, y’all! I actually feel like getting dressed in the mornings, and most days I’ll even do my hair and makeup now!

What change has that made? A few actually. One – it goes hand in hand with how I feel when I’m taking charge of my health. There’s a huge difference in the days when I put on my leggings and a cute top versus the days when I wear baggy yoga pants and an old ratty t-shirt. Two – getting dressed in the mornings actually helps you get more done throughout the day. Added bonus – you’ll look cute (and be totally comfortable!) while you’re doing all the things!

The only downside – it’s taking every bit of my self-control to not break the bank and order every pair I fall in love with. I want them all now!

All three of my game-changers are geared towards helping me get more done and feel better about myself. I have an amazing creative outlet now (and I’m organized!), I feel fantastic when I’m sticking to my fitness plan, and I’ll look cute doing it all! These are definitely worth carrying over into this new year.

Here’s my best advice for the new year, and don’t worry, it’s super-simple:

When you get up in the morning, grab your coffee (prorities!), get dressed, and put on some mascara. Pay attention to your health and take care of yourself! And get organized so you can tackle every single thing that comes your way.

  3. Leggings how interesting hehe. I prefer jeans with pockets but yay that you have something simple to make your day start out great.

    • That’s the one bad thing – I miss the pockets! But my brother gave me this awesome long cardigan that has pockets, so that’s been a huge help.

  4. I’m with you on the goals. I too am making a new habit of better planning. And with that learning to stay focused and not get so distracted by shiney ideas. And secondly, get control of my health, mainly a weightloss plan. Taking little steps will get you toward the big goals happening!

  5. Planning really helps so much! I’m a HUGE planner and whenever I don’t stick to my schedule I’m all over the place and frazzled!

    • Yes! They really need pockets. I try tucking my phone into the waistband, but sometimes it just slips through and I have to awkwardly shake my leg to get it all the way down and out around the ankle. Lol!

  8. I have two biggest productivity game changers. One which I started towards the end of 2016 is to stop analyzing and just do it. I’ve been planning on creating a blog for over two years and did not put anything online until November 2016. Why? Analysis paralysis. There are so many tips online that teaches how best to create a blog, which I just kept learning and wanted perfection. When I decided enough is enough, and put my first blog post online, it became much simpler. When theory became practice, it became easier.

    The next productivity game changer for me which I started in February is sleep early and get enough sleep. Now I sleep by 11 pm and get up at 8 am. When I wake up, I am fully alert and eager to get work done. Before I used to sleep at around 12.30am, and feel sluggish the next day. Sleeping early and getting enough sleep has helped me to have high productivity throughout the day.
