2016 Goals Review: It’s been a successful year!

Wow! I can’t believe 2016 is almost over! It seems like just yesterday I was sitting down to make my list of yearly goals. I’m really excited to do this 2016 goals review so I can see how I did this year. It’s kind of like getting a report card at the end of the school year, but in a good way because I’m grading my own work. (Yes, I was always THAT kid who secretly loved report cards!)

Before we get started on the results, here are a few posts to get you caught up on my progress:

Whew! Now on to the good stuff!

2016 Goals Review

Lose Weight

YES! I did not hit my end goal weight (birthdays and holidays at the end of the year totally threw me), but I am still very happy with my progress! Check out this post to see how I dropped 19 pounds in two months. I am going to call this goal a success!

Work out 3-4 times a week.

Well, that’s an iffy one. When I was actively dieting, I was very good about working out, and I did hit this goal. However, when I fell off the dieting wagon, I also fell off the exercise wagon. Maybe I’ll just say this goal was successful under certain circumstances. 🙂

Be healthier.

Absolutely! Even though I didn’t reach my end goal weight or work out several times every week, my health was still a main focus throughout the year. Overall, I feel better now than I did this time last year. Most days I drank my 8 cups of water (and more), and I made healthier food choices. I will absolutely call this goal a success!

Take more time for myself.

Yes I did! I have gotten better about communicating with my husband when I need a break and I need to get out of the house ALONE. I’ve also taken up planning and bullet journaling (which is a great hobby for busy moms!). It’s opened up my creativity, so I’m making time for passion projects. I think all of this has made my brain much happier this year. Goal crushed!

Get out of the house more.

While we aren’t the most active family out there, we are getting out more. When you have brand new twins and a toddler, it’s easy to get in the habit of staying home all the time. Now that the twins are two and our son is four, we still haven’t really broken that habit. That being said, we did get out a lot more this year than we did the year before, so I’m still going to call this a win. (See, it’s a good thing you get to grade yourself!)

Grow my blog.

I can say hands-down without a doubt this goal is crushed! I had a few posts do amazingly well on Pinterest, and even though I still consider myself a small-time blogger, I’m very happy with the growth I’ve seen this year.

Learn photography.

This is another iffy goal. I was all fired up about it at the beginning of the year, but I never really made much time for it. I will say that I have gotten better at editing my photos, and I’m experimenting with both DSLR photography and iPhone photography. I’ll just call this one semi-accomplished, but I’m okay with not smashing it.

Have date nights.

While we didn’t have very many “get dressed up and go out” dates, we did have a few at-home date nights, both planned and impromptu. This is another one of those things that is getting easier as the kids are growing. We’re not nearly as exhausted as we once were, so it’s easier to get some good quality time together after the kids go to bed. I think this goal can be checked off as accomplished!

Overall, I’m pretty happy with my 2016 goals review. I think I did pretty good this year. I found a new passion/hobby, and I really learned to make time for myself and my husband. At the end of last year I remember feeling very overwhelmed by everything, and this year I’m much more relaxed. It has definitely been a successful year!

What’s in store for next year? I’m not quite sure yet! I’m still working on finalizing my goal list. Can you believe I haven’t finished that yet?! There are so many things that I’m wanting to tackle next, but I’m really trying to scale it back some. I don’t want to make my list too overwhelming.

    • Thank you, Lauren! It was a pretty good year! And definitely come back for the bullet journal posts! I’m so excited to hear that you’ll be starting that! 🙂

  2. Congratulations on meeting your goals. Even the “iffy” ones sound like you made a truly heartfelt effort. I’m still working on some of mine from 2016… but one of my goals for 2017 is to let go of my need for “perfection” and just get it done.
    Thank you for sharing!

    • Thank you so much, Amy! I really did try to give them all some effort and focus, even if I may have lost a little interest in the end. Letting go of perfection is a great goal to work towards, and definitely something I should consider for myself, as well! Have a fabulous year!

  3. Congrats on your wins =) I am currently making my goals for the new year (both personal and business). Oh, and as for your photography goal, take it from me (pro photog) you will never fully learn photography because it is constantly evolving! I have been doing it for 15 years now and I still learn stuff daily. So as long as you feel like you know more than you did when you started, I would call that a win =)

  4. Sounds like you did a pretty darn good job on your goals! Bravo!!!:)

  5. That’s awesome! I totally get the getting out of the house one…my twins are 11 months and I have a 4 year old. I think we’ve all left the house together maybe 3 times since my twins were born. It’s just so much work getting everyone out the door, so we do a lot of things separately (dates w/just my son, etc). Congrats on a successful year! My 2016 goal was to survive raising infant twins….almost there ; )

    • Thanks, Jesse! I think the first year with twins is like Vegas, but not nearly as fun – whatever happens stays there. It’s way too much work to get everyone out and keep them happy while you’re at it.

  6. I always love reading others posts on goals. It helps to keep me motivated with new ideas. Happy New Year and best of luck in 2017!
