I am feeling quite proud of myself. I just tricked my 10-month-old girls into eating oatmeal. LoveBug has never been a fan of baby cereal; SweetPea could take it or leave it. Once they started eating real food and feeding themselves, I tried giving them real oatmeal. It was rejected… big time. In their opinion, if you give them food on a spoon, it better not have a texture. So they’ve been eating a lot of Cheerios. Until this morning. I made something that is irresistible to them. I combined two of their favorite foods to disguise the one they didn’t like.
This recipe is great for babies. The cookies have a soft, chewy texture that’s good for babies with no teeth, but I still cut them up first. Monster thinks he’s getting a real cookie. Even Hubs and I think they’re tasty. The best part: these cookies only have three ingredients, and they’re so easy and quick to make.
Mash up the banana; get it all gooey. Then stir in the applesauce. Motts makes a great blueberry applesauce. There’s no extra sugars or bad stuff, and it has a very bold flavor. Once those are combined, mix in the quick oats. It’s gonna look a little gross, but just go with it.
Then all you have to do is make cookie-shaped blobs on a greased cookie sheet. The cookies won’t really run or spread out, so don’t worry about putting them too close together. Bake them at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
They are delicious fresh out of the oven or from the fridge the next day. Breakfast, lunch, snack, dessert: blueberry banana cookies are good at any time. You could also mix in some extra ingredients if you’d like: nuts, chocolate chips, etc. However, since I was making these for the babies, I didn’t add in anything else. These cookies got smiles from all three kids, so I’m going to call this recipe a winner!
