You’ve probably heard the phrase “happy wife, happy life.” However, in our house right now it’s “happy kids, happy life.” My twins are going through that wonderful stage where every time I try to leave the room they scream like crazy. Not so much fun, especially when all I want NEED is a cup of coffee. So I came up with the perfect solution: the at-home coffee bar. If you can’t get to the coffee maker, put the coffee maker where you are!

I’m pretty sure everyone needs an at-home coffee bar. The best thing about it is that you can put it anywhere you need it the most! Put it in your office so you don’t have to lose focus on your work (or get trapped by kids when your venture out in search of coffee). Put it in the bedroom so you don’t risk waking up sleeping babies in the morning for that first cup. Or be like me, and put it in the living room (or playroom) so you can stay with your family and still have your coffee.

This has been somewhat of a fantasy of mine forever. Can you imagine having coffee in every room of the house? I never followed through because then I’d have to have a tiny fridge in every room for the creamer. Then one day while I was shopping at Walmart (getting more k-cups, of course!) I saw something that caught my eye. It was like the light shone down on it, and I could hear the angels singing in my head. Right next to all the coffee I found the Dunkin’ Donuts® Coffee Creamer Singles! They don’t need to be refrigerated, so this was finally the solution I needed to make my dream come true.

They come in three flavors: vanilla, caramel, and hazelnut. I grabbed the vanilla for me, caramel for Hubs, and now I want to go back to try the hazelnut! They make my Dunkin’ K-Cups® taste even more delicious. Chocolate glazed donut with caramel coffee anyone? If you can’t get out to a coffee shop, make that flavor at home!

You might have figured it out by now, but we’re coffee junkies in this house. We even have a coffee maker collection: one for espresso, one regular coffee brewer, and our Keurig. That’s a lot of clutter on one counter, so I moved the Keurig to the living room. Our house is the queen of built-ins, and this spot here next to the television was begging to be turned into my coffee bar.

When you set up your own at-home coffee bar, you’ll need a few things:

  • Coffee maker (preferably a single-serve with a water tank so you don’t have to keep running to the sink every time you need a cup)
  • Coffee
  • Dunkin’ Donuts® Coffee Creamer Singles
  • Sweetener of your choice
  • Mugs
  • Spoons
  • Small dish for trash
  • Pretty container to hold your coffee & creamers

After I cleared the space I needed for the coffee maker, I covered the surface with a few kitchen towels to absorb any coffee splatter. Then I just set up the Keurig, and arranged all of my supplies.

As far as mugs go, choose what’s best for your environment. If you set up your coffee bar in your office, choose some mugs with motivational quotes or any favorite mugs. Since I set this up in our living room in order to have coffee when I’m with the kids, it’s imperative that these mugs have a lid! I don’t want any more rubber ducks or little fingers in my coffee! (Yes, that has happened!) Plus, these kids are very grabby, and I don’t want to spill my coffee (i.e. cry for hours about a waste of perfectly good coffee and then having to clean it up).

Keep a small dish on hand for any trash (empty sweetener packets, used k-cups, empty creamer containers). This top to a butter dish works perfectly! I dropped the bottom to it over a year ago, but I could never get rid of the top because I knew someday I’d have a new purpose for it. At the end of the day (or when I’m able to leave the room again sans heartbreaking cries), I just grab the dish, toss the trash in the kitchen, give it a quick rinse, and then put it back so it’s ready for the next round.

After I set it up, I had to give it a try. As soon as the girls saw me with a cup, they ran over with their water bottles to clink cups with me and say “cheers!” I got deliciously creamy coffee with no fuss. Happy kids, happy life!

  1. This is great! One of my goals for the house we buy is that it has a place I can have a full on coffee bar set up! <3

    • Thanks, Susannah! That’s a fantastic goal! I’m lucky that our kitchen has so much counter space. I still want to add a coffee bar to our office, and maybe even the bedroom. 😀

  2. SO fun. I love little things at home that make it feel special. We have a little coffee station of our own too!

  3. I love my coffee too! I have Dunkin Doughnuts K-cup everyday. I would like to have a coffee bar. I have a station that has a kcup, regular coffee maker and a variety of kcups. But I think I need to spruce it up and add some of things you have.

  4. Oh my gosh! Yum! Seriously the cutest idea ever.

  6. I would love to have a coffee bar in my office. I already have a small fridge in there that I used to have at work.

  7. I love Dunking Donuts coffee… when I was overseas, we had people mail it to us! I didn’t know they made creamer singles. I’ll have to give them a try. Great post!

    • Haha! I can totally understand having people mail you groceries! We don’t live in our home state, so I always have my mom mail us the stuff you can only find in Texas. 🙂 Definitely try the creamer singles – they’re great!

  8. This is a great coffee bar. Perfect idea

  13. This just makes me want to have coffee more! Counting down til my due date!!

    • I just saw on your blog that you’re at 38 weeks! How exciting! And congrats! You’re almost ready for coffee again! 🙂

  15. Love it! Now that I have a coffee bar at home, I don’t know how I ever got on without one. It sure makes mornings lovelier, doesn’t it? 😉

  16. Ooh I love hazelnut creamer, and not having to refrigerate? Score! With instant coffee and shelf stable creamer, all you need is hot water and you really don’t have to leave your bedroom for the first cuppa.

    • Exactly! Julie, I was so tempted to put this on my nightstand. I wouldn’t even have to get out of BED!!! I’m still tempted.

  17. I love this. Why didn’t I think of this before? It’s so lovely and makes you feel like you are having a takeout coffee!

  18. I love coffee bars! I used to want a bar cart but #tooold. I’m moving soon and when I get my new place I’m planning on getting that popular ikea cart ( and turning it into a coffee bar. Yours is too cute!

  19. I love this! Such a cute space!

  20. I love this! I wish we had a spot to do something like this. Our coffee pot is tucked in the corner of our counter, and it’s not the most “useable” space! #client

  21. I’m a tea drinker myself but my hubby would be in heaven if I set this up for him! Especially love that the creamers don’t need to be refrigerated!

    • The no-refrigeration thing was a total win for this! And if you set this up for your hubby, add some tea to it. 🙂 Our Keurig makes hot water, too.

  22. I’m STILL not at the point at almost 27 that I like coffee. I have to have it iced or in a frappucino to make it through. I may like it with Dunkin Donut creamers though. Thanks for sharing!

  23. We just got a Keurig and I am so excited to set up our own little coffee bar area at home.

Great idea Samantha! Hopefully it brings you much bliss, and coffee!

  25. I think that we have at least 4 coffee makers in our house, and I still keep instant coffee at home, just in case.

    • Instant coffee is a great idea! With all this crazy weather we’ve been having I’m terrified we’ll loose power and then have no coffee. Worst case scenario I make Hubs boil some water on the grill in a pot and make instant. Great idea!
