Strawberry & Green Tea Slushy

This strawberry & green tea slushy tastes amazing and it's so easy to make! A perfect afternoon treat, and it's packed with all the benefits of green tea!

According to the calendar, it’s almost fall. However, here in the south, summer is still in full swing. The trees and grasses are still bright green, and the temperatures are still in the nineties. So while I might not be breaking out any fall must-have boots, sweaters, or scarves, I am enjoying a nice cold drink. This strawberry & green tea slushy tastes like summer will never end, and I’m okay with that!

I came up with this recipe as part of my quest to get healthy and lose weight. I needed to eat more fruits, and I wanted to drink more green tea. Then one day it hit me to try putting the two together. My husband looked at me like I was insane when I told him my idea, but it’s actually really tasty!

Strawberry & Green Tea Slushy Recipe

  • 1 cup strong green tea, chilled
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • Sweetener of your choice (optional)

To make the green tea slushy, start by making a strong cup of green tea. I use 6 oz of hot water from my Keurig, then steep the tea a little longer than usual. If you’re using a powder sweetener (sugar, sugar substitute, etc.), now is a great time to add it in so it will dissolve in the hot water. When it’s done brewing I add enough ice to fill it up to one cup, and then stir it. This cools it down enough so that the tea gets chilled and won’t thaw out your drink before you’re done making it. (I strongly recommend NOT using a glass cup for this – we’ve all seen the YouTube videos of what happens when you add ice to hot glass.)

Once your green tea is ready, just add it to a blender with the cup of frozen strawberries. Blend it until it’s nice and smooth, then enjoy your amazing deliciousness! I’ve done a little experimenting, and the green tea slushy is also amazing with frozen peaches.

It’s so easy to make, and it has become part of my afternoon ritual. Eat lunch with the kids, get them in bed for their naps, and relax at my desk with this drink. I know some people only like smoothies and slushies in the summer, but this is one I’ll enjoy all year long. Plus, it’s so healthy!
